For this project I used the first edition of the Ita- leri M109A6 (1999) kit in 1/35 scale. I’ll built it in a desert camouflage with some extras such as workeable tracks from the Italeri brand. These tracks are very detailed. They come in parts with great detail and complexity. As in all modern models, the detail comes with a price, they take a long time to put them together. Additionally I have added Tamiya accessories for luggage, supplies and other added items left over from other models. In the painting part I wanted to experiment with a new modulation technique, I want to use ‘‘ Black & White ’’.I apply a base paint and then give an wea- thering with filters, washes, oils, waterco- lor crayons and pig- ments. We start with the de- sert base paint of the North American land units. It is applied in thin layers in order to don´t erase the light and shadow from the previous work. After several coats of very thin paint, we get a good mix of li- ght and shadow. Now, using the same base paint but lighter, I highlight the surfaces that are oriented per- pendicular to the light source. With this we highlight the details.I apply various oil paint colors to give it a patina of a hue (filter) that mat- ches the wear and tear of combat use. In this case we use the colors white, magenta, brown and yellow. When blending with white spirit and the flat brush. As it melts you see a pleasant aging look that tells an interesting story about the operation of the vehicle on the battlefield. Oil treatments. Left view of the Hull with the oil treat- ment.Once the process is completed on the hull and the turret, the gene- ral result is this. I have emphasized some nooks and crannies where dirt tends to ac- cumulate more. More brown color was used in those areas. The lights were also rein- forced with the use of yellow and ocher. With different earthy shades of oil colors I made wear, grease and spot soiling in areas where logi- cally there should be greater aging by use. The entire process covers the entire tank. I had forgotten to comment that in order to give more interest to the piece, the barrel of the barrel is not camouflaged with the same colors as the rest of the tank. This was common when maintenance had to be changed. Once the aging process was finished, I fi- nished the job with a good collection of accoutrements and supplies from various Finally, and for fully deco- rative reasons, an allegori- cal base was printed on the model.Next >
